Use Case 1: Emergency Situation Management in Smart City (ESM)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Worldsensing, founded in 2008, currently employs more than 60 people between Spain and UK. The core expertise focuses on providing sensing, machine-to-machine technologies and services to specific industry verticals. Taking into account the new Smart City paradigm, Worldsensing instruments monitor streets, buildings, bridges, tunnels, ports, wells and other elements to support the decision makers through smart services and operational intelligence solutions.

In general, urban areas have experienced a massive population growth. This situation directly affects city management and leads to increasing environmental problems. Nowadays, some technologies and devices, such as autonomous vehicles, are gaining a special interest by authorities and citizens to assess the impact that incidents and alarms may have on the city’s management and population. In this context, the proposed use case #1, within the mF2C project, aims to validate the implementation of novel technologies able to improve the management of emergency situations in smart cities. Such use case is based on the deployment of distributed edge-elements, which are capable to capture signals and data, as well as a centralized server, which integrates heterogeneous information in a cloud platform. The mF2C paradigm will allow to the aforementioned hybrid architecture a more efficient management of detected incidents (both, physical and cyber) for improving the performance of today’ smart city systems. The proposed use case will be adapted to a list of different scenarios: Smart Building, Smart Industry, etc. to thus evaluate the agnosticism aspect of mF2C paradigm.

Worldsensing will take advantage of mF2C project by implementing secure and powerful specific IoT services based on a prolific relation between end-devices and a central platform. This SME is interested in both the scalable and flexible approach brought by the mF2C resources management and its suitability to deploy services out of a data-center, and therefore move the computation close to the origin of data. The synergies and the knowledge obtained in the project will enable more ambitious developments to thus allow the access to wider markets that are not currently explored by Worldsensing due to the limited availability of cost-effective technology in this context.
