INTEL

  • Profile: Intel Corporation is the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, and develops advanced integrated digital technology platforms for the computing and communications industries. More than 6,000 researchers and scientists are engaged in our research and development program, including over 1500 employees within Intel Labs Europe. Dr. Martin Curley directs Intel Labs Europe from the Intel Ireland campus, Intel’s fourth largest manufacturing site overall, and the largest outside the United States with approx. 4,000 employees on campus. These labs include the Cloud Services Lab.The Intel Cloud Services Lab (CSL) is focused on the orchestration of Software Defined Infrastructures and their applications in Cloud, Telecoms (NFV), HPC, and Big Data. Research topics include instrumentation and manageability of cloud and network infrastructures, open interface specifications, SLAs, and context awareness. The lab’s research output includes usage models, prototypes, technologies and open standards which enable dependable cloud environments and support automatic discovery and selection of optimal platform services.  The lab is also actively advancing IT management framework processes for technology adoption.Intel’s Cloud Services Lab has participated successfully in many European, national, and bilateral research consotia including in frameworks FP5, 6, 7. In H2020 Intel is focused on cloud and analytics projects: CloudLightning (with a focus on HPC and differentiated hardware in the cloud), Mikelangelo (optimised performance and security for the cloud), and Superfluidity (highly dynamic and adaptable micro-sevices including NFV). Results are typically published under flexible open source licenses, and researchers are active in international, European and local stnadardisation efforts, including ISO/IEC JTC1 SC38.
  • Project Role: Intel is leading three tasks within the project. In direct scientific and technical activities Intel leads task 4.2 Gearbox block design and implementation where it will focus on advanced monitoring, analytics and orchestration solutions for the cloud edge and across the mF2C platform. Intel will also coordinate standardisation activities as lead of task 6.2 and the tracking of technology specifications as leads of task 2.1
